Plague - May 13

Tarrou’s ________(宽大的脸) relaxed in a brief smile.

If you weren’t here, I think I’d ________(擅自决定/自作主张).

No man can live on the stretch all the time, with his energy and will-power strained to the ________(崩溃的点), and it is a joy to be able to relax at last and loosen nerves and muscles that were ________(为斗争做好准备) the struggle.

But still Tarrou said nothing, and finally Rieux went up to the bed. The sick man was gazing at him steadily, and though his face was ________(疲惫的/憔悴的), the gray eyes were calm. Rieux smiled down on him.

Rieux came home in the evening. His overcoat still on, he entered his friend’s bedroom. Tarrou did not seem to have moved, but his ________(僵硬的) lips, drained white by fever, told of the effort he was ________(使不减少或降低).

As he was going out he heard Tarrou calling, and turned back. ________(Tarrou的举止有些奇怪), as though he were at once trying to keep back what he had to say and forcing himself to say it.
